In the early 1980's,
the Austrian army was seeking a new
standard issue military pistol to combine
ease of use, light weight, accuracy
and reliability. Even though Glock had
been supplying the Austrian army with
other equipment for decades, the company
had never manufacturered a pistol. When
Glock was asked to bid on the contract,
they ended up creating one of the most
innovative pistols ever made: the Glock
17.
Combining the ease
of use of a single-action revolver with
the speed of a semi-auto firearm, the
Glock 17 immediately became a worldwide
sensation. Today, Glock manufacturs
about 30 types of pistols to satisfy
the needs of the civilian self defense
and sport, military, law enforcement,
competitive shooters, and anybody who
needs Glock's reliability in their self
