Springfield XD40 Sub Compact Pistol 40SW 3"BLK 12RD +xd Gear
This is a SUB-COMPACT MODEL with the shorter size grip (shorter than the SERVICE or TACTICAL MODEL grips) and short barrel. (Compact XD capacity will go to hicap over 10RD with a mag extension.)
Note: Our Springfield XDs always include the current XD Gear package of accessories as advertised by Springfield Armory.
XD Features Fully hammer-forged barrel.
This barrel making process is usually reserved for
precision rifles, where accuracy is more critical.
The XD’s barrel quality is higher because it’s not “just a handgun,” it’s an XD.
Easy no-tool disassembly.
No tools are required to field strip the XD ® for cleaning.
More importantly, the order of operations is much safer than other guns.
The takedown lever cannot be actuated until the slide is locked back,
allowing you to verify the XD ® is unloaded. We think this should be obvious, but surprisingly,
other pistols require you to pull the trigger first to begin takedown.
ALL Critical internal parts forged /machined from billet.
Metal parts that have close tolerances or are subject to severe loads are forged and
machined from billet. This isn’t the cheapest way to make these parts, but
it’s the best way to ensure precision and durability.
True ambidextrous magazine release -
No need to disassemble the XD ® to “reverse”
the magazine release.
It’s ambidextrous right out of the box.
Point & Shoot Ergonomics -
A combination of a natural
grip angle and a smaller “waist” through
the gripping area make the XD ® pistol
work with your body, not against it.

Among the honors this pistol has received was being
selected as an NRA HANDGUN OF THE YEAR.
"The Springfield XD won us over for its unique combination
of modern and traditional features," wrote the NRA's
American Rifleman magazine’s Editor Mark A. Keefe IV. "The
XD marries many of the better elements of several other
well-established pistols into one efficient, new design."
The XD was cited for its innovative design and exceptional quality.

The Springfield Armory was the primary center for the manufacture of U.S. military small arms and the site of many important technological advances (see Springfield rifle) from 1794 to 1968. In 1974, the Springfield Armory name was used by Robert Reese, who formed a new company to manufacture semi-automatic versions of the M14 rifle. This company, now owned and run by Reese's sons, manufactures a wide array of firearms under the Springfield Armory name. However, this company is not located near the former armory site and has no connection with the original National Arsenal. It is now located in Geneseo, Illinois. Springfield Inc.'s motto "The Oldest Name In American Firearms."
